Brett Carnegie Apprenticeship

Brett Carnegie, Mechanical Engineering senior, officially signed with Schaeffler (Wooster), the largest accredited manufacturing apprenticeship. With this contract, he will be a CNC Planner Apprentice, working towards his journeyman card, while pursuing his degree in Mechanical Engineering through University of Akron. After proving his capabilities during his pre-apprenticeship, he was selected to continue with Schaeffler as a full apprentice. With his contract, he will be receiving the industry’s competitive wage for the next six years. “The Mechanical Engineering program has given me the opportunity to get a foot in the door, teaching me the basics and showing me what I want to do. Having the credentials available through this program listed on my resume is a big reason, I believe, why I got the apprenticeship.”

Brett began his pre-apprenticeship on June 6th, 2022 and will officially start full time on July 31st.

“The students entering our pre-apprenticeship gain a great amount of knowledge and real world experience. Also, understanding how to interact with professionals,” said Tommy Guidetti, Tool and Die Apprenticeship instructor at Schaeffler.

Each school year, the Mechanical Engineering program has several students selected to participate in the Schaeffler pre-apprentice program during the summer between their junior and senior year. At the end of the school year, the Schaeffler team selects students who have exhibited industry knowledge, skills and work ethic during their pre-apprenticeship, to sign to become apprentices.

Congratulations to Brett and best of luck on your apprenticeship.
