Domestic Abuse Topic for Cosmetology Students

Students in the Cosmetology program at Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center recently heard from the Outreach and Prevention Coordinator Alison Webb and victim advocate Becky Gardner representing Ashland’s Rape Crisis Domestic Violence Safe Haven.  Webb, a salon stylist of ten years, and Gardner, a retired stylist, are available to speak to Cosmetology programs in Ashland, Richland, and Wayne Counties and also to area salons.  Through the “Cut It Out” program, a product of Salons Against Domestic Abuse, the ladies  educate stylists and aspiring stylists on the 3 “R’s” of domestic abuse: (1) how to recognize potential signs and patterns of abuse in their customers,  (2) how to respond and (3) how to refer possible victims to trained advocates.
