COLLEGE TECH PREP ADMISSION
College TechPrep programs offer Career Center students an opportunity for a seamless transition from high school to college. Career Center students who successfully complete any of the eight two-year College TechPrep programs may earn articulated_college_credit. A Career Center/college articulation agreement lets students know in advance about college program requirements and conditions, credit agreements, course requirements and other specific criteria. As a result, students will not have to repeat college competencies that have been learned in high school. More program-specific information can be obtained from the Career Center.
Students entering a College TechPrep program must have a 2.0 GPA for their freshman year and the first semester/trimester of their sophomore year and have one Algebra credit. Students aspiring to College TechPrep must also have a record of good attendance.
PROBATIONARY ADMISSION STATUS
Students who are missing any of the required admission credits may be admitted on a probationary status if the student meets the following criteria:
- Have a written plan to make up the noted deficiencies
- Attend a probationary admission planning conference at which the student and the parent/guardian must be present to sign the plan.
- Make progress on the probationary admission plan during the preceding summer and/or during the first semester of the school year. Failure to do so will result in a warning being issued at the end of the first semester.
- Prepare an associate school schedule in preparation for returning to the associate school the following year if a warning has been received.
- Show progress in eliminating deficiencies by the end of the probationary admittance school year or the student will return to the associate school the following year.
Note: Program openings will not be held for students on probationary admission status.
GRADUATION PLAN
A student who enters the Career Center in jeopardy of not being able to graduate in two years will have a prepared graduation plan which will:
- Detail those credits the student must earn in order to graduate.
- Map out a way to earn the needed credits through various means that may include summer school, correspondence classes, virtual learning classes and/or a three-year plan for graduation.
- Be signed in a joint conference with the student and the parent/guardian. One copy of the plan will be kept by the parent/guardian and another copy placed in the student’s file.
CAREER PASSPORT
Each career-technical student will complete a Career Passport prior to graduation. This Passport will detail the student’s accomplishments and the abilities mastered while at the Career Center. The Passport will include:
- A letter of verification
- A record of grades and attendance
- A competency card listing competencies deemed necessary to the student’s specific program area and the level of competency the student has achieved
- Three resumés in paper form and also contained on a computer disk
- A certificate of program completion for students with a 95% or better record of attendance
- Student writing samples
EARLY PLACEMENT
Students may be considered for early placement into a business environment as an alternative to in-school laboratory instruction in the second semester of their senior year. The employer and the student’s career-technical teacher will cooperatively develop an appropriate training plan for the student.
Any student wishing to participate in early placement must complete an early placement application and submit it to the principal’s office. If approved, a school/work agreement with the employer must be completed prior to the first day of work. Students under the age of 18 must obtain a work permit. A work pass for the student to leave school early will be issued by the principal after all paperwork has been properly completed.
